Governors

Welcome to William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools Governing Body

The Governors of William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools  have the responsibility for education of the children in our schools. The Local Governing Body, whose membership includes the school's Headteachers, provides strategic leadership to the school and takes key decisions in areas such as finance, staffing structure and appointments and premises as well as monitoring educational performance.

Our members are drawn from parents, staff and the local community so that we bring a wide range of experiences and views to our debates. Although we are all volunteers we take our duties very seriously and consequently have a genuine impact upon the school and the education provided to William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools children. There are typically three Full Governing Body meetings per year. There are also several sub-committee meetings and members regularly attend training events.

Governors welcome enquiries from all sections of the community about membership. We always embrace people who are committed to the ethos of the school and who are willing to work with us to improve the quality of the leadership that we provide. Enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn and contribute are the most important qualities. We can be contacted through the school.

Positive feedback is always welcome (so we can repeat successful things more often) but we also want to learn about things we can improve. We can readily be contacted through the school. If the matter is sensitive then a sealed envelope can be forwarded to the Chair or Vice Chair via the school office.

Please meet the Governors of William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools

My name is Peter Rooney and I am the current chairman of Governors for the Federated Schools. I have been a school governor at William Stockton for 8 years, starting when my own children went through the school from nursery to leaving juniors. My work background is in the public services, working in the NHS. My current role is that of Security Manager and Local Security Management Specialist. I have been an active Trade Unionist all of my working life and have a strong sense of social justice for all, which is one of the reasons I became a School Governor. I strive to ensure that every child who passes through our Schools is given the best chance to receive the best education at all times. As governors, our job is to hold the Head teachers and schools management teams to account and ensure that the schools budget is spent in the most effective manner to benefit the children and boost their educational needs. I am also Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Councillor of Ledsham and Manor.

My name is Sarah Greatrex and first and foremost I am a Mum to Will, who is in year 6 at Wimboldsley Primary School and am married to Dave.  I also work full time as Head of Trust Accounting for Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service where I manage the production of the accounts that report on all the fine, fixed penalty and confiscation order income that is due to HM Treasury, in addition I manage some key commercial contracts on behalf of the department and act as the senior responsible officer for large scale change projects involving the finance department.  I live in Cheshire but work out of London 2 to 3 days a week, so spend a fair amount of time commuting up and down the country.  In my spare time, I am treasurer to the PTA for the school, walk our 2 dogs and knit.

It is this direct experience of challenging underperformance that I bring to the Governing Body. I also have the experience of taking a school to Foundation status (2007) and then forming a Trust with a group of 6 Primary schools in 2010. This experience of moving to Charitable Status and working collaboratively with many groups of Governors and other Stakeholders will support the work of William Stockton and Wimboldsley.
