Autumn 2 Term
Our topic this term is:

Autumn Explorers: 'Wherever Next?'

Literacy

We are beginning this term by celebrating Bonfire Night by writing our own firework poems using adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We will also celebrate and remember by exploring Armistice Day this term.

Later this term, we will reveal our new class story (keep a look out on our class twitter page!) We will be encouraged to develop our writing by focusing on a range of narratives including letters, postcards and non-fiction writing. We will make our writing more interesting for the reader by including adjectives and conjunctions (and, but, or).

Phonics

We have a 30 minute daily phonics lesson to practise reading and writing our sounds. Each week we will be introduced to a new spelling pattern that we will be encouraged to use in our writing and reading. Please practise these patterns at home each week.

Maths

This term we will consolidate what we know about place value and addition and subtraction. We will review our number bonds to 10 and 20 and see how we can apply this to bigger numbers. We will consolidate previous strategies and begin to use new strategies to add and subtract two two-digit numbers.

Building on our previous learning from last half term, we will practise daily our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table, so remember to keep practising them at home! We will also be introduced to a new operation 'division' and link this to our previous learning about sharing.

We have access to Mathletics, which allows the children to practise their number skills at home. The children's login details can be found on the first page of their reading record.

Topic

Our topic this term is 'Autumn Explorers - Wherever Next? where the children will follow the adventure of Barnaby Bear. The children will use their mapping skills to locate the 7 continents and the 5 oceans of the world. We will locate the equator and explore how this impacts a country's climate. Please take a look at our knowledge mat to find out what our Sticky Learning vocabulary is.

Find out about Barnab's adventure by following our class twitter page!

Lots of exciting things will be revealed soon......

Days to Remember

Reading

The children are expected to read at home on a daily basis. Please ask your child questions about what they have read in order to develop their comprehension skills.

Please return your child's reading book and reading record on a Monday.
Children's books will be changed on a Friday.

Each child has access to Phonics Bug Club. This interactive site allows children to practise their phonics based reading skills. Your child's login can be found on the first page of their reading record.
