Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to 2B!

Mrs Boyd is our Teacher in 2B

Miss Ball is our TA in 2B

Autumn 1 Term
Our topic this term is:

Autumn Explorers: Cheshire Life

English

We are beginning this term by reading 'Dougal's Deep-Sea Diary' by Simon Bartran. We are going to explore nouns and adjectives in the story to write our own Expanded Noun Phrases. The children will have an opportunity to develop their extended writing by writing their own diary entries. We will consolidate using capital letters and full stops in our writing.

Phonics

We have a 30 minute daily phonics lesson to practise reading and writing our sounds. These are the sounds we will be focusing on this half term.

Maths

This term we will consolidate what we know about place value (the value of numbers). We will build on our knowledge from Year 1 to compare, order and write numbers to 100. We will practise counting in 2's and 10's and we will begin to apply this to learn our 2 and 10 times tables. It would be great if your child could practise this at home too!

Each afternoon we will develop our arthimetic fluence by taking part in a 'Speed Maths' session.

Topic

Our topic this term is 'Autumn Explorers - Cheshire Life' where we will be exploring the question would you rather live in a city or a village? We will begin by looking Chester City Centre and identifying the different Geographical features of a city. We will later compare this to a rural area, and we will collaborate with Wimboldsley Primary School to compare and contrast the different areas. We will use our mapping skills to locate Cheshire, Chester, Ellesmere Port and Wimboldsley.

Days to Remember

Reading

Children's books will be changed on a Monday and Friday. The children are expected to read at home on a daily basis. Please ask your child questions about what they have read in order to develop their comprehension skills.

Homework

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Wednesday.

P.E

On Monday and Thursdays we have P.E. The children will need to wear trainers on these days to school until further notice.
