Science- Plants.

 Literacy

We will be basing our learning on seaside stories and poems. We will begin by writing our own poems and then move onto descriptive sentences, writing our own seaside stories. We will be working on increasing our stamina for writing and applying our phonics sounds.

Numeracy

maths.jpg

In maths we will be introducing children to multiplication and division. We will then use these skills to look at fractions for the first time. Finally we will look at the place value of numbers to 100 using 100 squares, dienes rods and numicon.

Topic- History

Picture1.pngPicture3.png

In History we will be comparing seaside holidays from past to present. We will be looking at seaside holidays from Victorian times and modern seaside holidays and learning about how clothing; activities; food and attractions have changed over time.

Reading

See the source imagebugclub.jpg

The children read at least once a week on their own with an adult. The children read independently or with a partner every day. Every child has a book in their tray in school which they can access independently throughout the day.

On a Monday we have access to chromebooks which the children use to access bug club in school. It is important that your children are reading at home too so we encourage using bug club as the allocated books are matched to their phonics level so that they are easily decodable. There is a quiz at the end of each book which will show that your child understands what they are reading too. At the end of each week there is a bug club champion- this is the person who reads the most books at home. There is also an overall KS1 bug club winner which we hope to receive with lots of reading at home.

Children will bring a reading book home each week so it is important that their homework folders are returned.

Science

In science we will be learning about plants. We will be looking at a variety of common wild and garden plants. We will be learning about the different parts of plants and also be learning about different types of trees.

PE Days

Currently, on Tuesdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has suitable footwear and all earrings must be removed or covered up.

Don't forget!

Bug Club is available online for reading and phonics!

Google classroom is available if you are isolating.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 1 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to achieve excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting throughout the day!

Thank you!!
