This summer it is the Tokyo Olympics! Complete the challenges below during the summer holiday and return all your amazing work in September!

Summer 2Term

Who has been into the Year 2's classrooms? We will begin this term by using descriptive language to create a WANTED! poster. Look out on our class twitter page to see our Literacy book reveal and who has been in our classroom. We will develop our writing and secure our understanding of using capital letters, full stops, conjunctions and adjectives in an extended piece of writing. Later this term, we will be visiting Whitby Park linked to our topic Magical Mapping, and we will write a recount of our day.

We have a 30 minute daily phonics lesson to practise reading and writing our sounds. This is followed up with a 15 minute daily guided reading session. Each week we will be introduced to a new spelling pattern that we will be encouraged to use in our writing and reading.

We will begin this half-term by consolidating different strategies to solve a range of number sentences using all 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will practise using RUCSAC to solve probkems linked to these operations. Later this half term we will begin to look at measurement, where we will measure and compare lengths in cm and metres. In addition, we will explore time and the children will use language including o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to.The children will continue to develop their mental math strategies through our arithmetic academy lessons each week.

TTRS.jpgWe will continue to practise daily our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table, so remember to keep practising them  at home too using Times Tables Rockstars

We have access to Mathletics, which allows the children to practise their number skills at home. The children's login details can be found on the first page of their reading record.

This term in science we will build on our understanding on plants  We will consolidate our understanding of the different parts of a plant, and we will be able to describe the cycle of a plant. Look at our sticky knowledge mat to find out our key vocabulary words. We will explore different conditions for growing a plant by conducting an experiment.

Our topic this half-term is 'MAGICAL MAPPING,' where we will consolidate our learning from previous topics. We will begin by looking at aerial photographs and exploring physical and humna features of Ellesmere Port. We will develop our learning by using atlases to locate different countries in the United Kingdom and the continents around the world. We will visit Whitby Park to explore our local area and we will creare a map to show our route. The children will also learn compass directions. Look at our knowledge mat for all of our sticky learning words.

The children are expected to read at home on a daily basis. Please ask your child questions about what they have read in order to develop their comprehension skills. Please return your child's reading book and reading record on a Monday. Children's books will be changed on a Friday.

Each child has access to Phonics Bug Club. This interactive site allows children to practise their phonics based reading skills. Your child's login can be found on the first page of their reading record.

On Thursdays we have P.E. The children will need to wear trainers on this day to school until further notice.
