Welcome to Year 2

Spring Term:
Our topic this term

Vile Victorians!

If you have been absent look below for catch up activities you can do at home! Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

This term we are reading 'You Wouldn't Want to be a Victorian Schoolchild!' by David Salariya.  We will be writng lots of exciting character descriptions, diary entries and extending our vocabulary. We will be learning the four different sentence types and using these in our writing.  If you have any books or information about life during the Victorian times please bring them in to share with our class.

This half term we will  consolidate what we know about addition and subtraction within 100. We will be learning about multiplication and division and using our skills to find fractions of amounts! We will be continuing to solve reasoning problems throughout the year to secure our understanding.

Please help your children to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.

This term we are looking at 'Vile Victorians!' and comparing life as a Victorian Child to life today. We will be doing some enquriy work to learn more about life as a Victorian child and focusing on the art work of William Morris and Wassily Kandinsky.

Catch up activities

Can you write your own non-fiction text about life as a Victorian child?

Can you count in your 3s, 5s, and 10s? Can you do it backwards?

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom.

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Wednesday.

We are also sending out weekly spellings, please make sure you are going over these with your child.

We also expect children to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

PE Days

On Monday and Thursdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to Achieve Excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
