Spring Term:
Our topic this term is:

Vile Victorians!

English

This term we are reading 'George's Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl.  We will be writng lots of exciting character descriptions, potions, instructions and continuing to extend our vocabulary. We will be learning the four different sentence types and using these in our writing.

We are also going to be writing some non-chronological reports during our topic lessons about Victorian hospitals! If you have any books or information about life during the Victorian times please bring them in to share with our class.

Maths

This half term we will  consolidate what we know about addition and subtraction within 100. We will be learning about multiplication and division and using our skills to find fractions of amounts! We will be continuing to solve reasoning problems throughout the year to secure our understanding. We will also be looking at money and using our knowledge of money to develop our addition and subtraction skills.

Please help your children to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.

Topic

This term we are looking at 'Vile Victorians!' and comparing life as a Victorian Child to life today. We will be doing some enquriy work to learn more about life as a Victorian. We are going to focus on 'Florence Nightingale' as our famous person from the past and  compare hospitals in the Victorian times to hospitals today. I wonder what made Victorian hospitals so vile before Florence Nightingale?

Reading

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom. Please ask your child questions about what they have read in order to develop their comprehension skills.

Homework

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Wednesday.

Children are expected to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

PE Days

On Monday and Thursdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (t-shirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to Achieve Excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
