English as an Additional Language (EAL)
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Welcome
At William Stockton Primary School, we are proud to be a diverse and inclusive community. Many of our children speak more than one language, and we see this as a real strength. We aim to make sure every child feels valued, supported, and able to achieve their very best.
Our Approach
We provide tailored support to help pupils who are learning English as an Additional Language. This includes:
In-class support to help children access the curriculum alongside their peers.
Small language groups focusing on vocabulary, speaking and listening, and building confidence.
An after-school club with opportunities to develop English in fun and practical ways.
Access to FlashAcademy, a digital platform that supports learning English and celebrates home languages.
Our practice is also guided by high-quality resources and training from the Bell Foundation and EAL Academy, helping us provide the very best for our learners.
Support for Families
We want families to feel confident and supported, too. If you need help with communication, translation, or advice about how to support your child at home, please get in touch with us.
Celebrating Languages and Culture
At William Stockton, we celebrate the many languages and cultures that make up our school community. Last year, we enjoyed a fantastic Culture Day, bringing together food, music, dress, and stories from around the world. We shared a special montage video to capture the day, showing how proud we are of the rich diversity in our school.
We recognise that multilingualism is a valuable skill, and we encourage children to share and take pride in their home languages.
